Barbecue in Guffey

On a summer afternoon
strings slide and bend
Listen to the banjo ring
And how the guitars blend

Jim pulls out a fiddle
Now there’s magic keeping time
It rises over old Cobb Creek
Brings peace to troubled minds

We were strangers just a while ago
But now we’re life long friends
That’s how it goes when pickers meet
Time and time again

Bill sings the melody
To a hundred cowboy songs
And Jim adds the harmony
As others join along

    There’s a Barbecue in Guffey
Friends come from near and far
Out where the sky’s so clear at night
    There’s a hundred billion stars

A neighbor holds a rodeo
When the calves are ready to run
Old Ed’s still roping them
He just turned 81

Denis feeds some neighbors
Who’ve been down on their luck
From the bounty of the mountain
With a tender yearling buck

    There’s a Barbecue in Guffey
Friends come from near and far
Out where the sky’s so clear at night
    There’s a hundred billion stars

There’s a Barbecue in Guffey
There’s a Barbecue in Guffey
you all come as you are.
