When I was laid off from JDSU, I contemplated my last lunch time ride out across the high plains overlooking Boulder. It’s surprising how steep some of the trails are that climb up from the old town of Superior and out onto Rocky Flats where one eventually is greeted by awe inspiring views of the Flat Irons and Coal Creek Canyon.  Although my 20 month period of unemployment started off on a positive and creative note, I quickly spiraled into a depression which eventually ended with another burst of creativity. So this is a song of triumph.

One Last Ride

I’m going to ride one more time
Through the fields I’ve roamed
And I will glide through many memories
As I go

And I will think about the ones that I’m leaving
Leaving far behind
And if I can I’ll send them a message
From the other side

     One last ride
     One more time
     It won’t be long
    One last ride
    And I’ll be gone

                 Since the old plant closed
A lot of folks have moved on
                 It seems so long
Since they pulled out of town

I’m going to ride one more time
Up the rocky trail

And I will try to push beyond the point
Where others failed

My heart will feel how they struggled
When they stopped along the way
And I will climb up to the top
On that day

One last ride
One more time

It won’t be long
One last ride
And I’ll be gone
