How Can I Get Back
How can I get back to the Island?
Where I left my heart and so much more
How can I find
The peace of mind
That I knew when I lingered by the shore ?
How can I get back to the ocean
Where my soul rises with the sea ?
In the morning tide
The next wave to ride
Is cresting ahead of me.
A green beach of olivine;
Turquoise water in a coral dream;
Rainbows end by a misty stream.
Kalakaua the Merry Monarch
They dance the hula in his name
Ukuleles strum
To the native drums
Echoes from where they came
When I finally get back to the Island
Some things never change out there
Balmy trade winds blow
Sunsets of gold
Slack key guitars fill the air
Mauna Kea guards over Hilo Bay
Its snows overlooking palms that sway
In Kona gonna’ swim where dolphins play
Fade out
When I get back to the Island
When I get back to the Island…
