Water Street
A child was born
Her mother died
Down on Water Street
In 1889
That little girl
Somehow survived
Barely 2 pounds
And that’s why I’m alive
She was my Grandma
Small, but tough as nails
As sweet as the flowers
On the Lookout Mountain trail
The railroad stopped
When the busy town was new
The children ran
When the train whistle blew
Who was on board
Where were they bound?
Indians were camped
On the edge of the town
That little girl
Grew more lovely with each year
By ’07 she had married
A masonic engineer
Some angels born
Could not stay
As their mothers held them
Their souls flew away
Others by Grace
Somehow survived
They carried on
And that’s why we’re alive
Days of joy
Days of sorrow
Long ago on Water Street
In Golden Colorado
